Ingredients:
For the Banana Wafers:
- Ripe Bananas (firm variety like Nendran or Cavendish) – 3-4
- Oil (Coconut oil or refined oil) – for frying
- Salt – to taste
- Red Chili Powder – 1 tsp (adjust to taste)
- Black Salt (Kala Namak) – ½ tsp
- Chaat Masala – ½ tsp
- Tamarind Powder or Powdered Lemon – ½ tsp
- Cumin Powder (Jeera) – ¼ tsp (optional)
- Sugar – 1 tsp (optional, for balance)
Step 1: Prepare the Bananas
- Peel the bananas and slice them thinly using a sharp knife or mandoline slicer.
- Soak the slices in salted water for about 5-10 minutes (optional, to prevent browning).
- Drain the slices and pat dry them thoroughly with a towel to remove excess moisture.
Step 2: Frying the Banana Wafers
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
- Drop the banana slices into the hot oil in small batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry until the slices turn golden and crispy. Remove them and drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Step 3: Seasoning the Wafers
- While the wafers are still warm, sprinkle them with the spice mix: red chili powder, black salt, chaat masala, tamarind powder (or lemon powder), cumin powder, and sugar (if using).
- Toss the wafers gently to ensure the spices are evenly coated.
Step 4: Cooling & Storing
- Let the wafers cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
- Store for up to 2-3 weeks.
